Former DOJ Employee Pleads Guilty to Laundering Conspiracy
On November 13, George Higginbotham, who is listed on his LinkedIn as a “Senior Congressional Liason/Oversight Counsel”, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to make false statements to a bank. He avoided any role that would have had him investigating the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). The scheme included facilitating the transfer of tens of millions of dollars from foreign bank accounts in the United States
in order to financially back a lobbying campaign related to the DOJ’s investigation of embezzlement and bribery concerning 1MDB. The lobbyists were supposed to clear up civil and criminal matters revolving around the scheme. Higginbotham confirmed the primary architect of the plan was the foreign person in charge whom they tried to keep anonymous.
Another thing admitted was the attempt to have an
another foreign national, residing on a temporary visa, removed from U.S. soil and returned to his original country.
Higginbotham openly admitted working on fake loan and consulting documents in an attempt to defraud bank and other regulators as to where the money actually came from and its true purpose. The total of misappropriated funds is estimated to be around $4.5 billion.
James Comey Withdraws Challenge to House Subpeona
WILL INSTEAD TESTIFY PRIVATELY IN FRONT OF hOUSE jUDICIARY COMMITTEE
On Sunday, the former FBI Head withdrew his bid to quash the subpoena to testify in front of the House Judiciary committee, opting, instead, to strike a deal that will allow him to testify behind closed doors. The deal that was struck is still within legal constraints “without being held in contempt”. After the hearing, a transcript will be given to Comey within twenty-four hours to do with as he pleases, including releasing either small portions or the entire document.
He will be advised from an FBI representative as to what he is able to reveal, casting doubts on how much will actually be divulged. One of the issues is whether or not the panel is within its power to question Comey in regards to the FBI investigations revolving around former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and the alleged Trump/Russia Collusion.
Magnitude 7.0 Quake Hits Alaska
On Nov. 30, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0, which lead to rock slides. It centered 7 miles to the north of Anchorage. There were a series of aftershocks. Pictures across social media showed wreckage in supermarkets including products scattered on floors and collapsed shelves.
The main quake and the aftershocks have no reported casualties as the date this is posted.
